Current Event: Freedom of Speech

Each week we will take a look at one or two current events that pertain to the branch of government that we are studying. Over the next couple of weeks we will take a look at the judicial branch. While our book focuses on the federal courts, we can discuss cases at the local and state level as well. It will be up to you to find at least one story each week and post it in the wiki in the appropriate place.

The story this week has to do with freedom of speech. It is important for you to have a little bit of background knowledge about the First Amendment. Please read this article before commenting on the news story.

You need to write a few sentences about how you feel about this after we discuss it in class.

  4. I think it is wrong in some ways if boys/girls take dirty pictures of themselves because you don't know if those get forwarded on to everyone else. Some kids take their own lives because they are being teased about the pictures they have taken about themselves. But its different when an older man has a picture of a teenage girl. If it was your boyfriend you could understand about that, but if someone else gets your picture that is not right, like if your boyfriend or girlfriend forward the pictures they took of you to other people just because they were mad at you that is not right. Because everyone else could make fun of you or everybody would get all those pictures. So its not right in some ways for teens to be taken pictures of themselves or sending them either.
